The psychological, emotional, and political challenges of life fuel my work, which follows a thoughtful and introspective thread. My work is series based developing themes found through the excavation of my internal landscape: dislocation, destruction, rites of passage, and coming of age.
I walk the bridge between abstraction and representation. My subject matter is often figurative, forms found in nature, and abandoned or destroyed architectural elements. My work develops through a process of deconstructing and reconstructing subjects, and revealing and concealing forms. Each canvas is animated with layers of paint applied in techniques ranging from thin, dripping washes to thick, impasto strokes. Motion — an essential force in my paintings — emerges from a dialogue among brush strokes, layers, and explorations.
